Blank text boxes caused by database connections problems

WARNING - This applies to old version only. Install 3.50 or over for no Access data problems.

go to top arrow The New XML version is much more stable

We recommend you upgrade to the new XML version.

go to top arrow Connecting to the Microsoft Access data file

You do not need to purchase Microsoft Access but you do need to have its drivers installed. These come free with Windows but are not pre-installed on all computers, particularly the older ones.

go to top arrow Missing database file

Missing database file

If there is a bad connection to the database then this box will appear. Select the database button on the right.

Make sure you have the webtext.mdb file in the installed directory or perhaps this has been corrupted.

You can occasionally loose the database connection but restarting solves this. This is generally only when running the Access file across a network or if it's not been compacted and repaired for a long time. Compact using the text file button in the setup page.

go to top arrow Finding your database

Finding your database

Browse to find your database using this screen.

Make sure the database you require is selected in the text file box in the setup screen.

go to top arrow Connecting to required DSN

Connecting to required DSN

If the program does not make the required connection automatically you will be presented with the window shown to the right.

Simply double click on "MS Access Database" and then select the webtext.mdb file in the following screen. You may need to locate this by browsing to c:\Program files\EngAdven\str2web\webtext.mdb.

If no MS Access option is available then click on the NEW button.

go to top arrow Adding the required drivers

Adding the required drivers

To install the required drivers simply follow the instructions by the wizard and select the relevant Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb).

If you are not presented with these boxes then you can access them by selecting START\SETTINGS\CONTROL PANEL\ODBC.

go to top arrow No drivers available

If all boxes are empty, this means you do not have the required drivers on your machine.

You can locate them on your original windows disk or from www.microsoft.com/data/download . Search for “MDAC download”.

go to top arrow Data Source Name

Data Source Name

When you have selected the relevant Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb) you may find the following screen appear or another screen asking for the data source name.

Simply type 'MS Access Database' into the data source name box and press OK. Make sure you use exactly the same capital and space format that we have here. Sometimes Microsoft Access uses different DSN names that Pure SEO-CMS does not recognise e.g. Datenbank in German. Simply add the extra name 'MS Access Database' and this will allow Pure SEO-CMS to find the data without compromising your existing connections.

After pressing OK you may need to select our database webtext.mdb file although you may need to locate this by browsing to C:\Program files\EngAdven\str2web\webtext.mdb, or wherever you have installed our program.
